No One Showed Up for the Auction

What do you do when no one shows up for the auction after a loved one dies? Many people find themselves in the same boat after the last loved one of the older generation dies. It is usually an auction. The one responsible for the estate has a vision of many showing up to the auction to bid, with bids going higher and higher as every last item is gone at the end of the day. What often happens is that some people show up and the bids are low or non-existent. And, at the end of the day, you still have 90 percent of the items and the problem of what to do with all the stuff. Now, we don’t advocate just throwing everything in the landfill. First, offer other relatives the chance to come and take a few items. Second, try and sell as much as possible. Third, donate stuff that you think is still useful to those shopping at Goodwill and Salvation Army stores. Then, call Blue Box Rental to deliver a dumpster to the driveway. You may even want to pay some local teens $10 each to help you carry the rest of the stuff from the house to the dumpster. Lastly, do not feel guilty. Stuff is just stuff. After life is over, stuff seems even less valuable. If you find that you are dealing with a house full of unwanted stuff and need help unburdening yourself, contact us at Blue Box and we will be happy to give you a quote for a […]
